The Wholesome Space

You’ve prayed the same prayer more times than you can count. You’ve promised God that this time would be different. Yet somehow, you find yourself back in the same place, battling the same struggles and carrying the weight of disappointment.

Maybe you’ve started to wonder if God is tired of you.

Maybe you feel like you’ve failed Him one too many times, missed too many opportunities, or fallen short of the purpose He has for your life.

If that’s you, I want to remind you of a simple but powerful truth:

God is not done with you!

When You Feel Like You’ve Failed God

This is for the woman who feels like she has disappointed God.

The woman who keeps falling into the same patterns.

The woman who made promises to God and didn’t keep them.

The woman who wonders whether God has given up on her and moved on to someone more capable, more disciplined, or more faithful.

Perhaps you feel as though the gifts God placed within you are no longer yours to carry. Perhaps you’ve convinced yourself that you’ve missed your chance.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

God’s plans for your life are not so fragile that they are destroyed by your mistakes. His love is not dependent on your performance, and His purpose for you does not disappear every time you stumble.

The Lesson From The Potter’s House

One of my favourite passages in Scripture is found in the book of Jeremiah, where God sends the prophet to a potter’s house.

18 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: ² “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” ³ So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. ⁴ But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. — Jeremiah 18: 1-4 (NIV)

I love that God chose to show Jeremiah something instead of simply telling him. Throughout Scripture, we see God using illustrations and demonstrations to reveal deeper truths. It reminds me of when He took Abram (Whom He later named Abraham) outside and told him to look up at the stars.

⁵ He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” – Genesis 15:5 (NIV)

God could have simply told Abraham that he would have many descendants. Instead, He gave him a picture he could see with his own eyes.

I love that about God.

Sometimes we need to see something before we truly understand it.

At the potter’s house, Jeremiah watched as the clay became marred in the potter’s hands. It was spoiled. Imperfect. No longer taking the shape the potter intended.

Yet the potter didn’t throw it away.

He didn’t discard it and reach for another lump of clay.

Instead, he patiently reworked it until it became the vessel he had envisioned.

What a beautiful picture of God’s heart toward us.

God Is Still Working On You

As I reflect on this passage, I’m reminded that many of us see ourselves as the spoiled clay.

We focus on our mistakes, failures and shortcomings.

God, however, sees the finished vessel.

He sees what He created you to become.

He sees the woman you are today, but He also sees the woman you are becoming through His grace.

The clay was marred, but it never left the potter’s hands.

And neither have you.

God’s Love And His Purpose For You

When we give our lives to Christ, we surrender ourselves to His Lordship. We place our lives in the hands of the Potter and trust Him with the process.

The beautiful thing about God’s will is that it is perfect.

His plans for your life are far greater than anything you could imagine for yourself because they come from the Creator of the universe—the One who formed you in His image and loves you deeply.

¹¹ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. -Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

God sees you.

He notices you.

He knows you.

In fact, He knows you better than you know yourself.

He knows the version of you that existed before anyone else knew your name.

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
    before you were born I set you apart;
    I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” -Jeremiah 1 :5 (NIV)

He knows your past, your present and your future.

Sometimes we forget this.

We forget that the God who created us also understands us completely.

Jesus tells us that God even knows the number of hairs on our heads.

⁷ Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. -Luke 12:7 (NIV)

Think about that for a moment.

The God who holds the universe together pays attention to details that small.

That is how intimately He knows and cares for you.

Of course He knows your weaknesses.

Of course He knows your struggles.

Nothing about you surprises Him.

Yet He still loves you.

Keep Walking

Life comes with challenges.

There will be seasons that test your faith. Seasons that leave you discouraged. Seasons where you feel like giving up on your purpose altogether.

But keep walking.

God’s plan for your life does not change every time you take a wrong turn.

Think about a GPS.

When you miss a turn, it doesn’t abandon the journey. It simply recalculates and finds another route to your destination.

The route may be different.

The journey may take longer than expected.

But if you continue following the directions, you’ll still arrive.

God works in much the same way.

Your mistakes may create detours, but they do not have the power to cancel God’s purpose for your life.

He is faithful enough to reroute what you thought was ruined.

God Is Not Done With You

The clay was marred in the potter’s hands, yet the potter continued working on it

Shaping.

Moulding.

Refining.

Perfecting.

God is doing the same in your life.

As long as you remain in His hands, He will continue the work He started in you.

He will restore.

He will reshape.

He will redeem.

And He will use every part of your story for His glory.

So if you’ve been feeling discouraged, remember this:

You are God’s vessel.

You are deeply loved.

You are intentionally created.

You are called according to His purpose.

The clay was marred, but it remained in the Potter’s hands.

And so do you.

God is not done with you yet!
