Procrastination Is Costing You More Than Time

God told you to do it months ago.

Start the business.

Write the book.

Launch the project.

Apply for the job.

Send the email.

Have the difficult conversation.

You know exactly what He asked you to do.

So why are you still delaying?

You keep telling yourself you’ll start tomorrow. Next week. Next month. When you feel more ready. When you feel less afraid. When everything is more perfect.

But what if your delay is costing you more than you realise?

The Enemy’s Strategy

As women of God, we should not be ignorant of the enemy’s mission.

Jesus tells us clearly:

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…
— John 10:10 (NIV)

That has always been Satan’s agenda.

To steal.
To kill.
To destroy.

And sometimes, he does not do this through obvious sin or dramatic attacks.

Sometimes he does it through delay.

Through distraction.

Through fear.

Through subtle resistance.

He wants to steal your time so he can weaken your discipline, wear down your faith and delay your obedience.

The scary thing about procrastination is that it rarely feels dangerous.

It feels harmless.

“It’s just one hour.”

“I’ll do it tomorrow.”

“I’m still thinking about it.”

But delayed obedience is still disobedience.

Be Sober and Vigilant

Scripture warns us:

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)

Notice that the enemy is looking.

He studies patterns.

He looks for openings.

He looks for weakness.

He looks for distraction.

He especially pays attention to people carrying purpose.

Because purpose threatens darkness.

A woman fully surrendered to God, walking boldly in her calling, is dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.

She disrupts things.

She carries light into dark places.

She pushes back against the enemy’s agenda.

So of course the enemy fights purpose.

Hell Responds to Destiny

Think about King Herod.

When news spread that the King of the Jews had been born, Herod was deeply disturbed.

Why?

Because destiny had entered the earth.

Jesus had come to fulfil divine purpose.

Herod’s insecurity became a tool the enemy could use.

I believe this shows us something important: the enemy will use clever devices to fight the purposes of God.

Sometimes he uses insecurity.

Sometimes comparison.

Sometimes fear.

Sometimes confusion.

And sometimes… procrastination.

We saw this even in the Garden of Eden.

The serpent did not force Eve.

He manipulated her thinking.

He planted doubt.

He distorted truth.

That is how the enemy often works.

He attacks the mind first.

Because if he can influence your thinking, he can influence your actions.

Or in many cases—your lack of action.

Not All Movement Is Progress

This is something God has really been teaching me.

Sometimes you may indeed be moving… but in the wrong direction.

That means you can look busy and still be procrastinating.

You can answer emails.

Clean the house.

Scroll through content.

Watch sermons.

Research endlessly.

Make plans.

Organise notebooks.

And still avoid the one thing God actually told you to do.

Not all movement is progress.

Sometimes procrastination hides behind productivity.

That one hurts a little, doesn’t it?

The Digital Age of Distraction

We live in a world filled with distractions, and many of them live right in our hands.

Our phones.

Social media apps are designed to keep our attention.

Especially the newer ones.

They are engineered to keep you scrolling.

And their creators?

Smiling all the way to the bank.

Be honest.

How many times have you said:

“I’m just going on for five minutes.”

Five minutes becomes fifteen.

Fifteen becomes thirty.

Then suddenly two hours are gone.

And somehow scrolling for two hours feels completely different from reading a book for two hours.

Woman of God, your time is precious.

Treat it like the valuable commodity it is.

Time is one of the few things you can never recover.

Use it intentionally.

Now, I am not saying do not use social media. I work in marketing, so trust me, I understand both the value and the enjoyment of social media.

But be conscious.

Be intentional. Own your attention before something else does

My Own Battle With Procrastination

Can you believe it took me a long time to start The Wholesome Space?

God had been telling me for a while that He wanted me to write more.

I knew what I needed to do.

I knew the assignment.

And yet… I delayed.

Not because I was lazy.

Because I was scared.

Scared of starting.

Scared of putting myself out there.

Scared that I would not be good enough.

Scared of whether people would even read what I had to say.

Fear disguised itself as delay.

And that is something I had to confront.

Because sometimes procrastination is not laziness.

Sometimes it is fear wearing a different outfit.

And I wonder how many of us are delaying not because we do not care—but because we are afraid.

Afraid to fail.

Afraid to be seen.

Afraid to get it wrong.

But courage is not the absence of fear.

It is choosing obedience despite fear.

How to Stop Procrastinating

Here are practical things that help me:

Plan Ahead

Plan your week.

Plan your days.

Do not leave everything to emotion or mood.

Intentional living requires intentional planning.

Identify Your Time Wasters

Be honest with yourself.

What consistently steals your attention?

Social media?

Overthinking?

Perfectionism?

Distractions cannot be defeated if they remain unnamed.

Start Small

Not everything requires a giant leap.

Sometimes obedience begins with one small step.

Open the document.

Send the message.

Write one paragraph.

Start.

Pray for Discipline

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you.

Discipline is spiritual too.

God cares about how you steward your time.

Stop Delaying

The assignment God placed in your heart is not there by accident.

That idea.

That vision.

That burden.

That calling.

He gave it to you for a reason.

Stop waiting for perfect conditions.

Stop waiting to feel fully ready.

Start now.

Imperfect obedience is still better than endless delay.

One of the enemy’s favourite lies is this:

“You still have time.”

Maybe.

But maybe the better question is:

Why wait?

Why delay what God has already confirmed?

Why postpone obedience?

Woman of God, protect your time.

Guard your focus.

Steward your calling.

Because procrastination is not always harmless.

Sometimes, it is a silent thief.

And it has stolen enough.

Start today!
